ESS Utility Scale
Utility-Scale Energy Storage Solution Minimized LCOS, Maximized ESS Value Deeply integrating power electronics, electrochemistry, and grid support technologies to deliver ESS with excellent performance
Victoria has 12 commissioned large-scale storage systems and 3 in commissioning – with a total output capacity of 1028 MW and storage capacity of more than 1.7 GWh. Storage capacity = how much total energy is stored in each battery. Output capacity = how much energy a battery can provide at a given time.
773 MW of commissioned energy storage capacity and 21 utility-scale storage projects with a combined capacity of 2,326 MW under construction or undergoing commissioning at 30 June 2025. Figure 4: Emissions from electricity generation in Victoria, 2013/14 to 2024/25
Energy Vault, which also provides a proprietary gravity energy storage technology, has been employed by several developers for energy storage sites in Australia. This includes Acen Australia, which confirmed that Energy Vault would provide a 400MWh BESS for the New England project in New South Wales.
Victoria is the home of big batteries and has legislated storage targets of at least 2.6 GW by 2030 and 6.3 GW by 2035 to provide crucial support for more renewable capacity. Storage is a vital part of our electricity grid. In the future, much of our energy will be generated closer to where it is used and the way we use it will be more efficient.

Neighbourhood batteries Smaller than a big (or utility-scale) battery, but larger than a household battery, neighbourhood batteries can soak up cheap, renewable energy from rooftop solar during the day and
In the heart of every efficient power network beats the unsung hero – energy storage systems. As global electricity demand grows 3% annually (IEA 2023), Victoria''s manufacturers are answering the call with
Australia''s Victoria government has fast-tracked a 400MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and 500MW solar-plus-storage project via its Development Facilitation Program (DFP).
The SEC Renewable Energy Park will be Victoria''s first 100% publicly owned utility-scale renewable energy project. It is estimated to cost around AU$370 million (US$240 million) to develop fully and
The firm capacity delivered by Victoria''s energy storage targets will provide reliable, affordable and clean energy as Victoria''s ageing and increasingly unreliable coal generation is replaced with new
